Ingredients Manakedi Do Not Use !
Here are a few of the commonly used ingredients we avoid:
Paraffin Liquidum, Vaseline, Mineral Oil:
They prevent absorption of the fat soluble vitamins and certain mineral compounds. The effects of applying them on the skin are that they strengthen the skin’s protective qualities but to such an extent that the skin completely closes off. Hence the reasons why they are used on babies bottoms to protect them from burning urine. These oils are petro-chemical derivative, they are ‘foreign’ to our bodies and can cause tumours in connective tissue. They do soften the skin but unfortunately do not contain nutrients. They are used because they are cheap and do not go rancid. They are good for the market.
Magnesium Fluoride:
Fluorides discolour teeth. They are still used in the EU and USA.
Coal Tar:
Extract of coal. Used as anti-dandruff agent. Reported to cause acne. Long term, low level exposure to coal tar has been linked to cancer. Regular use of coal tar in shampoos and anti-dandruff treatments should be avoided. Now banned in EU, but is still used in the USA.
Triethanolamine:
Made from ammonia and ethylene oxide. Used in creams, shaving foams, also in baby shampoos. Considered harmful. Can cause severe dermatitis and penetrate the skin and cause liver damage. Used in most products in EU/USA.
Hormones:
Used in creams and lotions that claim to rejuvenate skin and reduce wrinkles. Most oestrogen’s have been banned from cosmetics in the EU and the FDA’s Cosmetic Handbook states that they are ineffective and have not enough data that establish their safety.
Lanolin:
Excellent emulsifier in lotions and creams, but unfortunately researches have found it can be contaminated with pesticides such as DDT, linden and dieldrin Still used in the EU and USA.
The list is endless! This is just the tip of the iceberg!!
